What is Sciatica?
Sciatica is pain in the buttocks, thigh, leg, ankle or foot caused by inflammation of the “sciatic” nerve. The sciatic nerve is a group of nerves extending from the lower back and combining together to form one large nerve. In fact, the sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. It supplies the lower leg with sensation and muscle strength.
Causes of Sciatica
Sciatica is commonly caused by a bulging, herniated or ruptured disc that is compressing the nerve in the back. Other causes are chronic muscles spasm within the buttocks muscles known as Piriformis Syndrome. Another cause of sciatica is a tight hamstring muscle.

Degenerative Disc Disease
What is Degenerative Disc Disease?
Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) is the most common cause of chronic severe lower back pain. Most people will at some point suffer form deteriorating discs due to injuries and wear and tear. And that explains why 90% of American adults will suffer from lower back pain.
The discs are fibrous-cartilage like structures with an outer substance known as the “annulus” and a gel like inner structure called the “nucleus.” The disc has nerves around the outer edges and into the annular fibers. The disc contains water within its annular fibers that it absorbs from the surrounding area to keep it hydrated and flexible.
When a disc has been injured, it may crack and allow water to escape. The cracks cause the outer annular nerve fibers to be irritated causing pain which may trigger back muscle spasms. This tightening of the muscles can cause the disc not be unable to open up and “drink” more water. Eventually the disc becomes dehydrated and the annular fibers dry out.
This dehydration makes the disc susceptible to further injury and damage and the result is a disc that begins to flatten in height and bulge outward. As the disc shrinks in height, nerves are pinched or irritated causing pain that may radiate to the legs (sciatica).
Treatment of Degenerative Disc Disease
Effective treatment should involve returning water back to the disc and reduce any bulging that may be present to relieve pain. Sounds simple enough. Unfortunately old treatments such as back pain medications, shots and back pain spinal surgery only mask the problem by removing the symptoms. They do not treat the disc. They do not heal the disc or return water to the disc, so the problem will eventually return. This is why degenerative disc disease sufferers become chronic. The treatments are not treating the underlying problem.
DRX9000 Spinal Decompression is a treatment that has become more and more popular becasue it successfully relieves pain from degenerative disc disease. It works because it does treat the underlying problem associated with DDD. DRX9000 therapy returns water to the disc, causes the disc to increase in height and reduces the outward bulging of the disc. The process is usually painless and requires approximately 20-30 sessions depending on the severity of the problem.
